If you live in a place such as we do in Western New York (we're in Rochester!) With beautifully hot summers and cold snowy winters, you'll understand your options for your child's birthday celebration are mostly dependent on the weather.
As an August baby, we always had little family parties outside at my house. However, with sons born in November and March, we are constantly left to book an indoor place for their parties, if we chose to have them that season. While those with children with summer birthdays might appear lucky to have numerous options at their disposal, it may also often feel overwhelming.
While in Climbing Vines Cafe and Play we may be biased since we sponsor indoor parties, I wished to discuss with all the 5 most common reasons we hear from previous party customers to reserve indoor summer birthdays with us. To these, the stress-free nature of the indoor playground equipment (
https://www.twitarcade.com/) summer party is really a no-brainer, plus they're not looking back! After their first indoor summer partythey continue hosting with us year after year.
The most common reason for a client to reserve a summer indoor celebration with us is so they do not need to stalk the weather prediction for updates in the weeks leading up to the party. And if you've ever needed to cancel or postpone your child's birthday because of weather, then you know how heartbreaking that can be.
We receive dozens of calls each summer a couple of days before someone's outdoor party is supposed to happen to see if we've got an open slot for them in our indoor party venue due to weather woes. We can normally pull this off if the place remains open, but hosts will unfortunately have to scramble and let all of their guests are aware of the change in venue and likely shift in time, and change all of their
catering requests to accommodate their new party plan.
While of course rain is probably the largest obstacle you might face, intense heat, unseasonably cool weather, and end can also pose issues to your decorations, food, along with your guests' possessions. You will probably find yourself investing in a kayak or some other weather barrier simply to ease your mind somewhat, which are costly and take lots of precious time to prepare and take down. I won't even tell the narrative of the time my Dad set a tent up for a celebration in a windstorm and ended up with an insurance claim for 4 ruined cars when it withdrew (weights and anchors and all!) ...
2) CHANGING IT UP
Besides the obvious weather concerns it's possible to avoid with an indoor party, there may also just be something really simple and lovely about an indoor summer celebration. Guests will not need to worry about bringing sunscreen and towels and sunglasses and swimsuits and changes of clothing and insect spray... you understand.
Sometimes it's wonderful to take a short break from the outside, sip coffee in an air borne cafe, and have a real conversation with other adults while the kids play, instead of chasing kids around trying to receive their fur on them keeping them away from the in-ground pool. I am not sure about you, but I could never quite relax at an outdoor summer birthday celebration with a 2 and a 4 year-old. While they sure do have a good time running around, we typically leave in a daze or with a tantrum, unsure if we had the time to chat or check in with everyone.
While I absolutely adore a good barbecue or summer grilling extravaganza, I find it refreshing when we could take a break from the same-old backyard celebration and spend a couple of hours at a relaxing, cool, and most significantly -- contained! -- air.
It is also freeing as a guest to have the remainder of the day to do as we want as a family, not have to be concerned about getting the children to a tub right after the celebration or stopping home to cool off and change clothing.
I guarantee that if you book an indoor party for your child, guests (especially family) may appear a little confused at first (why not just take advantage of the summer weather while we can, right?) But after hosting hundreds of indoor parties I will tell you for sure that on the day-of, you and your visitors will realize how pleasant it is to reunite within an air-conditioned private celebration for a couple hours.
3) EATING IN PEACE
Speaking of how relaxing a indoor, air-conditioned party can be, can we discuss food for a moment?
Therefore, for our family, the meals factor alone would be sufficient to justify an indoor party.
Eating in peace without needing to find shade or a chair or a location away from pests is just one of those things that you don't realize can be so glorious before you attend your fourth or fourth outside summer gathering and THEN get a break from them. Among the most common things we hear is how fine it's to sit and eat and see the kiddos play with no any other venue-related cares or worries. This will be particularly important if you're going to be needing older family members attend that will battle with being mobile in the grass or mud and locating seating at outdoor parties.
4) DECOR OPTIONS GALORE
While celebration aesthetic might not be a deciding factor for every household, it sure is much simpler to make a themed extravaganza which lighting a youngster's face up as soon as the party's inside. The decorations demanded are often less since the place is smaller and included contained, and you won't need to be concerned about balloons and streamers blowing all about or securing table covers down.
Because we do host mobile events outdoors at Climbing Vines Cafe and Play, I will also speak from experience when I say the time that it takes to install (and take down!) Decorations for an outdoor celebration compared to a indoor celebration generally ends up being at least double. Finding good places to hang banner, requiring two people to maintain and protect everything, and finding weights or other restraints for everything may be a true hassle on party day.
And you will have enough to be concerned about this day, right?
Also, if your own pinterest boards are full of cute centerpieces, a candy bar, or anything that could possibly be affected by wind (or bring bees!) You will likely have to restrategize to get an outdoor soiree.
And of course decor typically can only be utilized once if used outdoors, but repurposed again and if used for an indoor event. Our guests who sponsor indoor events, especially those who spent significant money into decor or labored hard to create their very own, are very happy to find they could usually create a huge chunk of their cash back by reselling their materials something like Facebook Marketplace.
Speaking of cash, probably the biggest misconception I hear from clients is that they wish to sponsor a party in their home to save themselves the leasing fee of an indoor space. I generally laugh at this because it makes perfect sense, that is, if you have never hosted an outside party.
With all the"extras" such as tents, chair rentals, extra decorations, weather reinforcements, cleanup supplies, games and activities for your children (which you won't have to supply at a play area!) It's very likely that you are going to wind up spending MUCH more hosting a celebration at your house or an outside venue than you'd indoors.
I'm not sure how other indoor spaces handle their supplies, but we just charge guests to get extra drinks and supplies and these on the day of the celebration if they end up needing themand we also enable parties to bring in their OWN meals, dessert, and decoration if they choose!
Money aside, spending countless hours cleaning prior to, during, and following the celebration may also have a toll. Would not it be wonderful to walk into a sparkling clean space and depart with your guests once the party's over, not needing to be
concerned about the cleanup, trash removal, tent teardown, etc?
You can just head home and relax with your loved ones (yes, possibly outside!) In a nice clean home that was not just trampled by party guests and all of their sand, grass, and sunscreen.
Along with the time spent cleaning before and after the celebration, wouldn't it ALSO be wonderful to not need to play"host" during the event? Even for clients that bring in their own food and decor, our committed celebration assistants set up everything, refill and mend food and drinks as needed, clear dishes, cut and serve the cake, and package up all the leftovers in the end of the party!
In the end, it is your child's special day and you wish to spend those valuable hours making memories and seeing with your guests-- not running about chasing your decorations or refilling the fruit bowl countless times.
So save everybody (and especially your own family!) Lots of anxiety, time, and worry by booking your event with us this summer. We would be honored to provide you with an easy, breezy experience that will leave your entire guest list feeling joyful, grateful, and filled with love after having a relaxing (yet fun-filled!) day together.
